Political Platform Assignment

Objective:  Students will assemble their political viewpoints on the various subjects covered this year into a personal platform.

Design:  Student platforms should mirror the standard political platforms put up by the major political parties.    Be sure to create your own unique party name and include a preamble.

Examples:         Democratic party platform
Republican party platform
Green party platform
Libertarian party platform
Reform party platform
                        Communist party platform

Requirements:  Each student’s party platform must contain ten issue statements.  Students must choose five topics from the list below.   Then the student will choose five other topics of personal interest to add to their platform.  One issue must be either a local or state issue.  Students will then present one issue statement for passage on the CAM Class of 2014 Party Platform.  Presentations must be at least 7 minutes minimum and include a PowerPoint/Prezi slideshow.  The presentation will attempt to persuade classmates to pass your party platform for placement on the class platform.  All platforms are due by on May 16th.    Slide shows are due via email by May 16th.  Your platform statement must pass in a class wide vote to get credit for the presentation part of the assignment.   A margin of seventy-five percent points is considered passing.  You may amend and represent your platform, provided there time available, if you fail to pass your platform statement the first time around.

Topics:  abortion, taxes, education, Social Security, prescription drugs, welfare, death penalty, marijuana, United Nations, Israel, China, energy policy, salmon, environment, terrorism, North Korea, trade deficit, NAFTA, strategic defense initiative, outsourcing, judicial filibuster, AIDS, tobacco industry, CAFTA, Iran, nuclear proliferation, Iraq, off-shore drilling, gay marriage, Affordable Care Act, Afghanistan, Pakistan, War on Terror, border security, racial profiling, IMF, Greece, socialism, General Motors, TARP, obesity, climate change, value added tax (VAT), Arizona SB 1070, education, HSPE, NSA, Ukraine, racism, income gap, voter ID cards, welfare picture ID, drones, social justice, clean coal, Keystone pipeline….
